Do you believe that you can get cheap iPhone 3G from AT & T with price $49. Wireless carrier AT&T decided it was high time to drop the prices for the iPhone a little more; if not for all versions, at least for the refurbished ones. Those who would go for such a device now have the chance to acquire a refurb iPhone 3G 8GB for as little as $49, while the refurb 16GB will cost them only $99. The 2-year contract agreement and all the necessary plans are still in the equation, in case you were wondering.

The mobile phone operator started the price drop frenzy for the older iPhones as soon as the latest flavor of the device, the iPhone 3GS, landed. Back at the end of June, those willing to acquire an iPhone 3G had to pay only $99 for it, compared to the previously available $199 price tag, which applied for the new 3GS since then. At the same time, the price for the refurbished iPhone 3G went down even more, and AT&T subscribers were able to snag the 8G refurb variant for only $79.

It seems that users did not like those prices either, and AT&T lowered them even more, $30 more, to be exact, to the aforementioned price tags. It should be interesting to see whether they will register a better adoption among users now, though there are great chances that they won't. To put it plain and simple, there's no use in paying $30 less for a refurb when you're looking at a $1,680+ deal for the iPhone and the 2-year contract.

On the other hand, compared to the 3GS, the 3G is worth a $150 price difference, though this would apply better to the new units. Even so, the refurbs sometimes prove to be as good as the new handsets, which means that they do not sound like such a bad deal after all. As AT&T needs to clear its iPhone 3G inventories to make room for the 3GS, we might learn that the carrier has changed the offer once again.[Source]

It's pretty funny to see how some people (or some companies) try to bank as fast (and as much) as possible on the success of a certain franchise, whether they have the right to do so or not. And in the case of the Chinese mobile phone-manufacturing company Shanzai, I'm pretty sure the latter applies, since its Transformers phone arrived on the market right after the release of the hugely successful “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” summer blockbuster.

Now, while it's unlikely that Shanzai has ever entered a copyright deal with the owners of the “Transformers” IP (intellectual property) (as was the case with LG's Transformers handheld), the truth of the matter is that its handset is not half bad, according to a report by Chinese website M8cool. In fact, as far as the design is concerned, the Transformers phone might prove to be quite successful with the fans of the franchise, albeit the features are most likely to disappoint.

Hence, while there are several Transformers-related design elements installed right on the phone, on the inside, there's nothing really “transforming” about this handset. In fact, we're talking about a rather average 2-SIM product, equipped with a 2.2-inch display and able to deliver a QVGA resolution.

Furthermore, this thing works on the GSM 900/1800MHZ frequencies, sports an FM radio receiver and even an acceleration sensor, although no information on just what functions the respective sensor can be used for has been provided. However, it's important to mention that this thing is apparently targeted at an international audience, given the fact that the user interface is available in 13 different languages.

And now, for one of the most important issues related to Shanzai's handheld - the price. Hence, the Transformers phone sells for just around 50 US dollars, which makes it cheap enough for pretty much everyone to afford, and I'm referring here especially to all you crazy Transformers (and/or Megan Fox) fans out there.

Most recently, iPhone OS 3.1 has been confirmed to offer additional enhancements. According to World of Apple, which also documents some of the changes spotted by QuickPwn, these are:

Thanks to a new microprocessor employed by Apple, the device is capable of handling instructions and commands at 600 Mhz. As the name suggest, this is the Pro version of Twittelator (a free app). The app is painfully rich in features, unfortunately to its detriment: it feels cluttered and confusing. The app may be rich in functionality (there’s even a help button, perfect for those Jack Bauer emergency situations), but it’s poor in accessibility and, ultimately, a disappointment.

Twitterrific Premium ($9.99)
The premium version features an alternative theme and is ad-free. The adverts in the free version, though, are unobtrusive and serve as handy bookmarks when scrolling through unwieldy streams (which helps as scrolling is very jerky). Light on features, the appealing, functional interface design and super-cute tweeting sound are plus points. Certainly not worth ten bucks, especially compared to the competition.

Twinkle (free)
From the guys behind Tap Tap Revenge, comes a gorgeous looking Twitter app. It was the first one I used for iPhone but I eventually abandoned it due to various unsolved issues with the obligatory Tapulous ID. Like Twitterific, it’s light on features but has bags of character and also includes an impressive tweet-stream from nearby strangers.

TwitterFon (free)
The focus in this app is on basic features delivered in a speedy, stable package. There are only four screens in the app: a stream of tweets from the folks you follow; replies to you; direct messages; and search (including location-based search). TwitterFon feels a little bare but for purist tweeters, it’s the perfect little package.

NatsuLion (free)

The new iPhone 3GS has pretty much been kicking butt in every possible way that a new smartphone can. Then we heard about this. Boy Genius has reported that multiple users are experiencing sound issues with their new iPhone. Apparently right after a sound file is played the iPhone starts to play a continuous, high-frequency tone. They claim this tone is at around 15 Khz, which means it is too high for some people to even hear. For those who can, it is quite annoying.

If you're having this issue, setting your phone to vibrate will stop it for a while at least. It's probably a software issue, in which case we should see a fix to this come in the next couple of days. No other news sites have reported the issue, but I expect we'll hear more about it over the next day or two as the release hubhub dies down.

All these are OS 3.0-specific additions, and they can be handled just as well on first-generation iPhone hardware. MMS , however, requires the 3G hardware, according to Apple.

Admittedly, the iPhone 3G S is said to deliver an improved battery performance, a better processor, a better camera, video recording, voice control, that digital compass mentioned a bit earlier, and (perhaps) a better screen. But the differences aren’t overwhelming. Again, if you’re happy with your current device, why let something like this “ruin” your experience? It’s totally up to you to decide whether you need these new features, or whether you can do without them. Best of all, as an iPhone owner, you get OS 3.0 for free. iPod touch users must cough up almost ten bucks to have the new features. Add to that the extremely large number of people developing all sorts of applications for the iPhone, plus the fact that they're a lot cheaper than the games for the PSP, and you'll see why Sony's got a few things to worry about.

Another reason why the iPhone might add “portable gaming platform” to its roster of advanced functions (along with portable music player, smartphone, navigator, communicator, etc.) is related to Apple's already famous marketing strategy, built around the iTunes store, which allows users to very easily download and install Apps. I mean, Sony promises to offer something similar for the PSP Go!, but that moment is still rather far away.
